Scientists from the California Academy of Sciences (CAS) have described a newly discovered species of catshark, named Bythaelurus giddingsi, in the March 5 issue of the journal_ Zootaxa. The shark is roughly a foot long and has a chocolate-brown coloration with pale, irregularly distributed spots on its body. John McCosker of the CAS collected the first specimens of the catshark while diving to depths of 1,400 — 1,900 feet aboard the Johnson Sea-Link submersible. Get the full story from ScienceDaily._
